Travel Planning Mobile App

Project

Tripling

Year

2022

Tripling is a mobile travel planning application designed to simplify how users discover destinations and organize their trips. The project began with primary research to understand how people currently plan travel and what challenges they face when using existing platforms. Insights from user surveys revealed common issues such as scattered information, difficulty comparing options, and lack of a centralized space to plan trips efficiently.

Based on these findings, I designed a mobile experience that helps users explore destinations, plan itineraries, and manage trip details in one place. The design process included sketches, user flows, and usability testing to refine the interface and improve navigation. The final product focuses on intuitive discovery, clear information hierarchy, and a streamlined planning experience that helps users move from inspiration to booking more easily.

Problem Statement

"Travelers need an app that could find places according to their preferences, where they can chat with fellow travelers and see honest and trusted reviews about the place, and can manage their current and past bookings with ease."

Usability Testing

To find the app's usability problems, I mediated usability testing with 5 people. The five participants ranged in age from 20 to 35.
There were four tasks in total:
  1. Bookmark the destinations
  2. Make a three-day travel itinerary.
  3. Change the transit method and the trip's duration in the itinerary.
  4. Use the app to get you to the trip's starting point.

  • This usability test was completed by a total of 5 participants.
  • Three of the five tests were completed live while utilising Zoom's screen sharing feature. Using the Maze application to host the prototype, two out of the five tests were unmoderated.
  • Participants who used Zoom to do the activities assigned to them spoke aloud while they worked on them, and I watched to make sure I could help if necessary at any time. Participants were also invited to use the app at their own discretion and offer any comments or suggestions.
  • Unmoderated participants were required to complete two activities and give feedback on their performance, their impressions of the user interface, and how easy it was to use the app prototype, ranging from 1 (Difficult) to 10. (Effortless).

Key Findings

  • Participants found the app's navigation to be simple and clear.
  • Participants reported that they found it simpler to complete the tasks once they were familiar with the app.
  • Participants wish the app had some color to make it more vibrant.
  • 100% of participants said they were able to get easy access to their own personal travel advisor.
